As a Custom Software Engineer, you will be instrumental in designing, coding, and enhancing components across diverse systems and applications. Utilizing modern frameworks and agile methodologies, you will deliver scalable, high-performing custom software solutions tailored to specific business requirements.

This role centers on building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions. You will combine deep ABAP on HANA engineering expertise with agentic AI patterns, including LLMs, tools, retrieval, and evaluation. The focus is on creating production-grade solutions that leverage HANA pushdown principles, modern ABAP, and governed AI capabilities for reasoning, context retrieval, and action within enterprise SAP workflows, without the need for training foundational models from scratch.

Key responsibilities include designing and developing ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA, focusing on pushdown principles and efficient data processing. You will build modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code adhering to clean architecture practices and enterprise SDLC. Modeling enterprise business entities using CDS semantics for transactional and analytical consumption is also crucial.

Furthermore, you will build AI-enabled SAP experiences integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, such as tool calling orchestration and retrieval-grounded outputs. Ensuring quality through automated testing and establishing evaluation loops for AI behaviors are vital. You will also instrument services for observability and design robust error handling for enterprise flows, integrating ABAP on HANA services with various SAP and non-SAP ecosystems.

A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with a strong hands-on expertise in ABAP Development on HANA, including performance tuning and pushdown techniques. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, along with experience in AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios, is essential.

Solid software engineering discipline, including clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness, is expected. The role also requires AI-native build capabilities, encompassing LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and implementing safety boundaries.

Additional beneficial skills include OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and familiarity with performance benchmarking and SAP security/authorization requirements.
