Join our team as a Custom Software Engineer, focusing on creating advanced SAP applications and extensions. This role involves building AI-native, HANA-optimized solutions by merging deep ABAP on HANA expertise with agentic AI patterns. You will deliver high-performance, cloud-ready, production-grade solutions leveraging HANA pushdown principles and modern ABAP, incorporating governed AI capabilities for reasoning, context retrieval, and action within SAP workflows.

We are seeking individuals who can build AI experiences that integrate ABAP services with LLM capabilities. This includes orchestrating tool calls, grounding outputs with Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) over governed SAP data, and implementing deterministic fallbacks. Emphasis is placed on prompt engineering, tool schema design, and context assembly strategies to minimize hallucinations and enforce enterprise safety boundaries.

Design and develop ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA, employing pushdown principles to maximize in-database processing. Build efficient data models and access patterns using CDS views, associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, implementing performance-critical logic with AMDP/SQLScript where appropriate.

Develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code adhering to clean architecture practices. Build stable services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, ensuring versioning and contract-first behavior. Apply secure coding standards and authorization checks consistently across all layers.

Model enterprise business entities using CDS semantics for transactional and analytical consumption. Design reusable data artifacts for downstream consumers and ensure lineage-friendly structures with consistent business definitions.

Build AI-enabled SAP experiences by integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, focusing on tool calling, RAG, and deterministic fallbacks. Implement prompts, tool schemas, and context assembly strategies to reduce hallucinations and enforce safety boundaries.

Create automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts to ensure regression coverage. Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors and introduce guardrails for AI outputs, including authorization-aware filtering, redaction rules, action confirmations, and audit logs.

Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for production support. Design robust error handling for enterprise flows, including retries, idempotency, and safe failure modes. Support incident response and continuously harden solutions based on observed failure patterns.

Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems. Collaborate with UX, integration, data, and platform teams for end-to-end solution correctness. Rapidly prototype, demonstrate progress, and evolve prototypes into scalable, secure, and compliant production systems.

A strong foundation in ABAP Development on HANA is essential, including performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, such as associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, is required.

Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and controlled code pushdown is necessary. A solid software engineering discipline encompassing clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness is crucial.

Capability in building AI-native applications is a must-have, including LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and establishing safety boundaries.

Additionally, experience with OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and contract-first development is highly beneficial. Familiarity with integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms is advantageous.

Knowledge of performance benchmarking, load testing, and query-plan driven tuning practices, along with an understanding of SAP security, authorizations, and compliance requirements for sensitive enterprise data, will further strengthen your profile.
