This role is for a Custom Software Engineer focused on building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions. You will combine deep ABAP on HANA engineering with agentic AI patterns, including LLMs, tools, retrieval, and evaluation. The position emphasizes delivering high-performance, cloud-ready, production-grade solutions.

Leverage HANA pushdown principles, modern ABAP, and governed AI capabilities to create solutions that can reason, retrieve context, and assist within enterprise SAP workflows. This role does not involve training foundation models from scratch, but rather integrating AI behaviors directly into SAP solutions.

- Design and develop ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA using pushdown principles. - Build efficient data models and access patterns using CDS views and annotations. - Implement performance-critical logic using AMDP/SQLScript when appropriate. - Develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code aligned with clean architecture practices. - Build services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, ensuring stability and versioning. - Model enterprise business entities using CDS semantics for transactional and analytical consumption. - Design reusable data artifacts for downstream consumers. - Build AI-enabled SAP experiences integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, including tool calling and retrieval grounding. - Implement prompts, tool schemas, and context assembly strategies to reduce hallucinations and enforce enterprise safety. - Build automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts. - Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors and introduce guardrails for AI outputs. - Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for production support. - Design robust error handling for enterprise flows, including retries and idempotency. - Support incident response and continuously harden solutions. - Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems. - Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end solution correctness.

A strong foundation in ABAP Development on HANA is essential, with hands-on expertise in performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, including associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, is required. Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios is also necessary.

Solid software engineering discipline is a must, encompassing clean design principles, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and a focus on production readiness. The role demands AI-native build capabilities, including LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and establishing safety boundaries.

Additionally, experience with OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and contract-first development is strongly beneficial. Familiarity with integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms is advantageous. Knowledge of SAP security, authorizations, and compliance requirements for sensitive enterprise data is also valuable. A minimum of 3 years of experience is required for this position.
