Join our dynamic team as a Custom Software Engineer, where you'll design, code, and enhance complex software components. This role emphasizes the development of scalable, high-performing solutions using modern frameworks and agile practices to meet specific business needs. You will focus on building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions, integrating deep ABAP engineering with agentic AI patterns. The goal is to deliver production-grade solutions that leverage HANA pushdown principles and modern ABAP capabilities, enabling reasoning, retrieval, and action within enterprise SAP workflows.

This position is not about training foundation models from scratch or merely using AI assistance. Instead, you will be instrumental in building and owning AI behaviors, including grounding, evaluation, guardrails, and observability, as an integral part of SAP solution delivery. Your contributions will lead to high-performance SAP solutions, faster delivery of intelligent SAP workflows, and reduced operational risk through robust safety boundaries and automated testing.

Develop highly performant ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA using pushdown principles and efficient data access patterns. Build modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code adhering to clean architecture and enterprise SDLC standards. Design and implement robust data models using CDS semantics, supporting both transactional and analytical needs. Create AI-enabled SAP experiences by integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, including tool calling and retrieval-augmented generation. Develop automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts to ensure regression coverage and correctness. Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors and introduce guardrails for AI outputs to ensure safety and compliance. Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for effective production support and root-cause analysis. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure end-to-end solution correctness and performance. Rapidly prototype, demonstrate, and evolve solutions into scalable, secure, and compliant production systems.

A strong foundation in ABAP Development on HANA, including performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns, is essential. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, such as associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, is required. Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and controlled code pushdown is necessary. A solid understanding of software engineering principles, including clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness, is crucial. Demonstrated capability in building AI-native solutions, encompassing LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and safety boundaries, is a must-have.

Secondary but highly beneficial skills include OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and contract-first development. Experience integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms is advantageous. Familiarity with performance benchmarking, load testing, query-plan driven tuning, and SAP security/authorization compliance is also strongly preferred.
