This role focuses on developing advanced SAP applications and extensions that are AI-native and HANA-optimized. You will leverage deep ABAP on HANA engineering expertise combined with agentic AI patterns, including LLMs, tools, retrieval, and evaluation.

The emphasis is on delivering high-performance, cloud-ready, production-grade solutions. Key principles include HANA pushdown, modern ABAP development, and governed AI capabilities for reasoning, context retrieval, and assisting within enterprise SAP workflows, without the need for training foundation models from scratch.

Design and develop high-performance ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA using pushdown principles, maximizing in-database processing. Build efficient data models and access patterns with CDS views and associations, implementing performance-critical logic using AMDP/SQLScript where appropriate.

Develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code following clean architecture practices. Build stable and versioned services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, ensuring contract-first behavior and applying secure coding standards.

Model enterprise business entities with CDS semantics for transactional and analytical consumption. Design reusable data artifacts that support downstream consumers and ensure lineage-friendly structures with consistent business definitions.

Build AI-enabled SAP experiences integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, such as tool calling, retrieval-grounded outputs (RAG), and deterministic fallbacks. Implement prompts and context assembly strategies to reduce hallucinations and enforce enterprise safety boundaries.

Develop automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts, establishing evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors including offline datasets and scenario-based tests. Introduce guardrails for AI outputs, such as authorization-aware filtering and redaction rules.

Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for effective production support and root-cause analysis. Design robust error handling for enterprise flows with retries and idempotency. Support incident response and continuously harden solutions based on observed failure patterns.

Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems. Collaborate with UX, integration, data, and platform teams for end-to-end solution correctness. Rapidly prototype, demonstrate progress, and evolve prototypes into scalable production systems with security and compliance integrated.

A minimum of 3 years of experience is required. The core technical requirements include strong hands-on expertise in ABAP Development on HANA, with a focus on performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, including associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, is essential.

Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and controlled code pushdown is necessary. A solid software engineering discipline, encompassing clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and a focus on production readiness, is crucial.

Candidates must possess AI native build capabilities, including experience with LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and establishing safety boundaries. Beneficial skills include OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, and contract-first development.

Familiarity with integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes and enterprise integration platforms is advantageous. Experience with performance benchmarking, load testing, and query-plan driven tuning practices is also highly desirable. Knowledge of SAP security/authorizations and compliance requirements for sensitive enterprise data is beneficial.
