As a Custom Software Engineer, you will craft innovative software solutions by designing, coding, and enhancing system components. Utilizing modern frameworks and agile methodologies, you will deliver scalable, high-performing applications tailored to unique business requirements. This role involves building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions, integrating deep ABAP on HANA engineering with agentic AI patterns.

Focus on delivering production-grade solutions that leverage HANA pushdown principles, contemporary ABAP practices, and governed AI capabilities. These solutions will reason, retrieve context, and assist or act within enterprise SAP workflows, all without the need for training foundation models from scratch.

- Design and develop ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA, emphasizing pushdown principles and efficient data processing. - Build robust data models and access patterns using CDS views, associations, and annotations. - Implement performance-critical logic using AMDP/SQLScript with rigorous testing and governance. - Develop modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code following clean architecture practices. - Create services and APIs using modern paradigms like OData, ensuring stability and contract-first behavior. - Model enterprise business entities with CDS semantics for both transactional and analytical purposes. - Develop AI-enabled SAP experiences by integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, including tool calling and retrieval grounding. - Implement automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts to ensure regression coverage. - Establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors and introduce guardrails for AI outputs. - Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for effective production support. - Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems, supporting end-to-end solution correctness.

A minimum of 3 years of experience is required, with a preference for 2-5 years. A total of 15 years of full-time education is a mandatory qualification.

Key technical skills include strong expertise in SAP ABAP Development for HANA, proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling, and experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance optimization. You should possess solid software engineering discipline, including clean design principles, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness. Demonstrable experience in AI native build capabilities such as LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and implementing safety boundaries is essential.

Additionally, beneficial skills include experience with OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes, and familiarity with performance benchmarking and SAP security/authorization concepts. This role does not involve training foundation models from scratch or purely AI-assisted development; instead, it focuses on building and owning AI behaviors within SAP solutions.
