Join us as a Custom Software Engineer, where you will design, code, and enhance software components across various systems. This role involves leveraging modern frameworks and agile practices to deliver scalable, high-performing solutions tailored to specific business needs. We focus on building AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions by combining deep ABAP on HANA engineering with agentic AI patterns.

The position emphasizes delivering production-grade solutions using HANA pushdown principles, modern ABAP, and governed AI capabilities. You will work with technologies that can reason, retrieve context, and assist or act within enterprise SAP workflows, all without the need for training foundation models from scratch.

Your core responsibilities will include ABAP on HANA engineering, focusing on performance optimization through pushdown principles and efficient data modeling with CDS views. You'll develop modular, testable ABAP code aligned with clean architecture and enterprise SDLC, building stable services and APIs. Additionally, you will model enterprise business entities using CDS semantics, design reusable data artifacts, and build AI-enabled SAP experiences integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities. This includes tool calling orchestration, retrieval-grounded outputs, and implementing deterministic fallbacks.

Quality engineering and evaluation loops for both AI and ABAP are crucial. You will build automated tests for ABAP services and data artifacts, establish evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors, and introduce guardrails for AI outputs. Furthermore, you will focus on observability, reliability, and operations by instrumenting services and designing robust error handling. Collaboration with UX, integration, data, and platform teams is essential for end-to-end solution correctness and performance, enabling rapid prototyping and evolution into scalable production systems.

A strong foundation in ABAP Development on HANA, including performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access patterns, is essential. Proficiency with CDS views and modern data modeling practices, such as associations, annotations, and authorization concepts, is required. Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and controlled code pushdown is also necessary.

We seek candidates with solid software engineering discipline, including clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and a focus on production readiness. The ability to build AI-native capabilities, such as LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and safety boundaries, is a key requirement. Beneficial skills include OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, experience integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes, and familiarity with performance benchmarking and SAP security/authorizations.
