As a Custom Software Engineer, you will architect and implement custom software solutions designed to enhance and integrate systems and applications. This role involves leveraging modern frameworks and agile methodologies to produce scalable, high-performance solutions tailored to specific business requirements.

This position focuses on developing AI-native, HANA-optimized SAP applications and extensions. You will combine advanced ABAP on HANA engineering with agentic AI patterns, including LLMs, tools, retrieval, and evaluation.

The core of this role is delivering robust, production-grade solutions that are cloud-ready. Emphasis is placed on HANA pushdown principles, contemporary ABAP development, and governed AI capabilities for enterprise SAP workflows, without the need for training foundational models from scratch.

Design and develop ABAP solutions optimized for SAP HANA, prioritizing pushdown principles and efficient data processing. Build modular, testable, and maintainable ABAP code adhering to clean architecture and enterprise SDLC practices. Model enterprise business entities using CDS semantics to support transactional and analytical needs, ensuring consistency and lineage. Develop AI-enabled SAP experiences by integrating ABAP services with LLM capabilities, focusing on tool calling and retrieval grounding. Implement automated testing for ABAP services and data artifacts to ensure performance and correctness, establishing evaluation harnesses for AI behaviors. Instrument services with logs, metrics, and traces for production support and root-cause analysis. Integrate ABAP on HANA services with SAP and non-SAP ecosystems, collaborating with cross-functional teams for end-to-end solution delivery.

A strong foundation in ABAP Development on HANA, including performance tuning, pushdown techniques, and efficient SQL access. Proficiency with CDS views, modern data modeling practices, associations, annotations, and authorization concepts. Experience with AMDP/SQLScript for performance-critical scenarios and controlled code pushdown. A solid software engineering discipline encompassing clean design, a testing mindset, CI/CD orientation, and production readiness. Capability in building AI-native solutions, including LLM integration, retrieval grounding, tool orchestration, evaluation loops, and safety boundaries.

Beneficial skills include experience with OData/service design patterns, API lifecycle management, integrating SAP backends with cloud runtimes, performance benchmarking, and SAP security/authorization compliance.
