Spearhead advanced database performance engineering and optimization efforts, with a core focus on enhancing the efficiency of critical banking systems. This role involves deep analysis of database performance metrics, architectural improvements for high availability and disaster recovery, and ensuring robust security and compliance within a complex financial domain. You will also drive automation initiatives to streamline operations and maintain a high standard of operational excellence.
This position requires a seasoned professional to architect and manage high availability solutions, including Oracle RAC and Data Guard, and to conduct rigorous disaster recovery drills. Alignment with banking domain specifics, including regulatory requirements and support for mission-critical systems like Core Banking and payment platforms, is essential. You will be instrumental in communicating complex database strategies to executive leadership and regulatory bodies.
Furthermore, you will be responsible for implementing stringent security measures and compliance best practices, including access control, encryption, and data masking. The role emphasizes developing and deploying automation solutions using modern scripting and infrastructure-as-code principles to enhance observability and reduce mean time to detect and resolve incidents. Your expertise will ensure the integrity and performance of multi-terabyte databases supporting high transaction volumes.
Lead advanced performance tuning using AWR/ASH analysis, SQL tracing, execution plan deep dives, and wait-event methodologies. Diagnose and resolve systemic issues like I/O bottlenecks, latch contention, and memory pressure. Optimize indexing, partitioning, query rewrites, PL/SQL, and connection pooling. Establish performance baselines for OLTP-heavy core banking workloads.
Architect and manage Oracle RAC, Data Guard, and Active Data Guard, including DR drills and failover simulations. Align RPO/RTO with banking regulatory needs. Design and validate RMAN backup and recovery frameworks. Ensure DR readiness through periodic validation and audit documentation.
Manage client situations during crisis, demonstrating executive communication and cross-functional leadership. Lead crisis resolution for critical database incidents and deliver executive-ready RCA reports. Align with IT, business, and audit stakeholders. Communicate complex database risks and strategies to C-suite executives and auditors. Support core banking, payments, treasury, risk, and compliance systems, ensuring adherence to RBI guidelines.
Implement database hardening and security best practices, including role-based access control, privilege minimization, Database Vault, TDE, and data masking. Support audit requirements and regulatory inspections. Ensure encryption at rest and in transit.
Develop automation using Shell, Python, and Ansible, and apply Infrastructure-as-Code principles. Standardize patching, upgrade, and rollback frameworks. Enhance observability via OEM and custom monitoring. Improve MTTD/MTTR through structured incident response and RCA processes.
A minimum of 10 years of enterprise Oracle database experience is required, with a preference for 3+ years in banking or financial services. Expertise in Oracle RAC, Data Guard/Active Data Guard, RMAN, AWR/ASH performance diagnostics, partitioning, advanced compression, and OEM is essential. Proven experience with large OLTP workloads and multi-terabyte databases is critical. Strong scripting and automation skills in Shell, Python, and Ansible are mandatory.
Experience in Pre-Sales for Oracle, MS-SQL, and open-source databases is desired. Hands-on experience with multi-cloud environments such as OCI, Azure, AWS, and GCP is required. The ability to execute DBA tasks like upgrades and migrations, along with experience in GoldenGate replications, SQL Server AG, and Weblogic upgrades, is also necessary.
Technical skills include deep knowledge of Oracle 12c/19c/21c/26Ai architecture, ASM, storage management, and Exadata features. Proficiency in GoldenGate for replication and migration scenarios, database upgrade and migration strategies, Edition-Based Redefinition (EBR), SQL Plan Management (SPM), Real Application Testing (RAT), and Resource Manager is expected. Familiarity with connection pooling, Linux performance diagnostics (vmstat, iostat, top, sar), and network latency analysis is crucial. Cloud exposure, particularly OCI, is preferred.
Preferred qualifications include Oracle OCP/OCM certification, experience with Exadata or engineered systems, exposure to cloud-native database architectures, and experience with regulatory audits in the banking sector.
