Job description

Join Microsoft as a Category Manager for Network Cabling, a crucial role focused on optimizing the sourcing, contracting, and supplier management of our data center's physical network infrastructure. This position offers a unique blend of technical expertise in network cabling and robust experience in commercial and contractual management. You will lead the network cabling category while also supporting other vital data center infrastructure and operational service agreements.

This role is integral to maintaining the high performance and scalability of Microsoft's data centers. You'll be instrumental in ensuring our network infrastructure is built on the best materials and services available, driving efficiency and reliability.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end sourcing for network cabling, from technical specification review to final contracting. You will partner closely with engineering and operations teams to translate technical needs into clear project scopes and supplier obligations. Evaluating and managing suppliers based on technical capability, quality, safety, and performance is critical. Furthermore, you will manage contracts throughout their lifecycle, including changes, risks, and service levels.

Building strategic relationships with cabling manufacturers and installers, and managing financial and commercial aspects of contracts are also core functions. Preparing performance reviews and identifying efficiency opportunities across technical systems and operational workflows will contribute to scalable data center operations. You'll also promote consistent adoption of best practices and coordinate closely with field operations teams for successful delivery.

Qualifications

Essential qualifications include experience in network cabling, telecommunications, or related technical fields, coupled with proven experience in managing suppliers, contracts, or projects. You must possess the ability to interpret technical specifications and translate them into clear supplier requirements. A relevant degree, technical diploma, trade certification, or equivalent practical experience is required. The ideal candidate will also have demonstrated experience with critical environment infrastructure and collaboration tools.

Preferred qualifications include 2+ years of experience with critical environment infrastructure like UPS systems and generators, as well as data center capacity management. Relevant industry certifications such as PMP or BICSI are advantageous. Experience supporting data center construction, maintenance, or operational projects is highly valued, alongside proficiency in data analysis tools like Power BI or Excel.
