As part of our Tax and EY practice, you'll leverage specialized tax technical skills to serve both US and global clients. You will be instrumental in building relationships, delivering exceptional work, and fostering a collaborative environment where your insights are valued.
Your role will involve a dynamic range of projects, supporting client engagements through daily team interactions and ensuring the delivery of high-quality work within deadlines. You will act as a trusted advisor, researching tax law, and guiding clients to understand potential risks and their need for advanced tax advisory or compliance services.
Key responsibilities include preparing tax information statements and returns, such as complex Forms 1041 and state income tax returns for trusts and estates. You will also conduct tax research, provide written tax advice, and interpret wills and trust documents to ascertain fiduciary tax reporting requirements, confirm beneficiary allocations, and identify areas needing specialized professional review.
Furthermore, you will analyze the appropriate tax treatment of various transactions, accurately identifying and reviewing tax reporting. You'll translate complex data into client-ready insights, facilitating informed decision-making regarding required tax reporting. This position actively supports the Fiduciary/Trust Tax Services practice in preparing and delivering essential tax documentation for agency, custody, and fiduciary accounts, engaging with banks, wealth management firms, trust companies, and law firms.
To excel in this position, a Master's or Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field is essential. A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a professional services or tax services organization, with a focus on preparing federal and state fiduciary income tax returns, is required.
Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is a must. Familiarity with trust accounting systems and tax software applications, particularly ONESOURCE™ Trust Tax, is beneficial. You should also have experience preparing income tax returns involving complex pass-through investments and be adept at reading and interpreting trust agreements.
This role demands the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team, assisting with diverse and complex projects. A solid understanding of taxation, trusts and estates, wealth planning, and fiduciary income taxation is crucial. Demonstrated technical expertise in fiduciary accounting matters and the capability to build strong client relationships, understand their unique needs, and manage workflow efficiently to meet expectations are key.
Ideal candidates will possess excellent organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication abilities. While not mandatory, a CPA or EA certification, or membership in The Bar, would be advantageous. A thorough knowledge of tax compliance, information reporting rules, fiduciary and/or income tax law, and the ability to prepare US federal and state tax information statements and returns are highly desirable. Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and adaptability to work with both internal and client teams are also important attributes.
