Job description

Shape the future of healthcare technology as an Architect – Mechanical Design. This pivotal role offers technical leadership in designing and developing mechanical systems for GE HealthCare products. You will guide complex problem-solving, mentor engineers, refine design methodologies, and influence product and technology strategies. The position spans the entire product development lifecycle, from initial concept to ongoing product support, collaborating with diverse teams to create innovative solutions.

GE HealthCare is a global leader in medical technology and digital solutions, dedicated to making healthcare universally accessible. Join an organization where your contributions drive world-changing innovations and foster a healthier world.

Responsibilities

Provide expert technical leadership for mechanical design and product development, guiding teams through intricate technical challenges. Lead the architecture, design, and development of mechanical components and subsystems for new and improved products. Drive mechanical engineering activities throughout the New Product Introduction (NPI) lifecycle, encompassing concept, architecture, detailed design, prototyping, verification, and manufacturing introduction.

Apply fundamental mechanical engineering principles to drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, and manufacturing process choices. Conduct technical reviews, identify risks, and drive engineering solutions. Develop robust test and verification strategies to ensure designs meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability targets. Mentor and develop engineering talent, enhancing problem-solving capabilities within the team. Partner with cross-functional leaders to align engineering deliverables with broader program objectives.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, translating them into mechanical engineering roadmaps. Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and suppliers to ensure seamless product industrialization. Resolve technical issues with suppliers and partners to meet subsystem requirements. Innovate mechanical solutions that effectively balance performance, reliability, cost, serviceability, and manufacturability. Select and apply appropriate materials and manufacturing processes, including plastics, polymers, metalworking, and injection molding. Identify opportunities for leveraging common technologies and strategic sourcing across development programs.

Qualifications

A Master's degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Tool Design, or a related field is required. Candidates must possess over 10 years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with at least 5 years focused on core product design and development. Significant experience in New Product Introduction (NPI), new product development, or R&D environments is essential.

Demonstrated experience managing mechanical design activities across multiple stages of the product development lifecycle is crucial. Proven technical leadership abilities, including leading complex problem-solving, guiding technical decisions, and mentoring engineers, are necessary. A strong foundation in mechanical engineering fundamentals, encompassing design, drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, material selection, calculations, and verification, is expected.

Effective collaboration with cross-functional engineering and product development teams is a key requirement. Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed to articulate technical concepts and decisions clearly. Desired characteristics include experience in product development organizations with design ownership, defining product architecture and technical roadmaps, knowledge of manufacturing processes, and the ability to balance multiple engineering constraints.
